Charleston County School District is kicking off a year-long celebration to honor North Charleston High School’s (NCHS) rich history and to celebrate the 100th anniversary. The year will be filled with events, performances, and opportunities to view memorabilia and historical items in the dedicated archive room located on the school campus.

“Reaching our 100th anniversary is both a celebration of our past and a promise for our future,” said Principal Henry Darby. “This milestone reflects the generations of students, families, educators, and community members who have poured their hearts into making our school a place of learning, growth, and belonging. As we honor a century of excellence, we look forward to building on this legacy for the next 100 years.”

North Charleston High School was established in a growing city with a need for a larger school building, built in 1922. North Charleston High School opened in 1926. The school became a central part of a city whose growth was heavily influenced by the U.S. Navy base established in 1901, which was a major employer.

“This centennial is more than a marker of time - it is a testament to the unwavering spirit of our school community,” added Darby. “We are proud of where we have been, grateful for where we are, and inspired by where we are headed. Together, we will continue shaping bright futures for generations to come.”
